I was enamored with the first issue and ZAWA + The Belly of The Beast #2 only reinforced exactly why I loved everything about this story. Michael Dialynas is creating something truly magical here and I can’t wait to see how this all plays out. The story is engaging, the characters are captivating, and the art is gorgeous. This is going to look AMAZING in a collected trade and I hope more readers are able to discover it then if they’re missing out on these single issues because it is already a must-read monthly pick-up for me.

Zawa + The Belly of the Beast #2 continues to be a delightful story with an endearing misunderstood monster at its core. An enchanting story about outcasts.

Zawa + The Belly of the Beast #2 is a little more focused than the first issue, with Bandit and Thatcher quickly figuring out exactly what Zawa is and learning about her love of organic (or genuine?) food. While some of the worldbuilding remains disjointed, we do get a little more explanation of what’s going on. I’ll also note that Michael Dialynas’s coloring and lettering are delights – makes this comic a fun read.

Zawa + The Belly of the Beast #2 builds off the momentum of the series’ introductory outing and kicks things up a notch. It’s less action and more exposition (and food!) but things are far from boring. The new revelations explored in this issue set the table for the story to go in any number of ways. The ability to singlehandedly create and express his vision comes in handy for Dialynas as the art and writing fit perfectly together. He even does the lettering! It has been a fun and interesting journey to start and as the mystery and conflicts deepen, things should get even spicier.

    Major Spoilers

Zawa + the Belly of the Beast #2 is an excellent story, but the pacing of the narrative arc feels conducive to a trade paperback. Despite that, I immensely enjoyed this book and think it’s a worthy pick-up.
