Please don’t let this be the end of White Widow. Not that issue four of this limited run wasn’t a good finale; it’s quite the opposite, in fact. White Widow’s balance of a team element and Yelena’s own inner monologue made for a fantastic read from start to finish, and this final issue ties a wonderful bow on the entire series. It would just be disappointing to not see such a great run continue beyond four issues.

Corporate evil is no match for an assassin turned mentor turned assassin as White Widow #4 ends one of the most fun minis that Marvel is publishing. If we don’t get more of this character and more from this creative team, that’s a big head-shake type situation.

    The Super Powered Fancast

The Story: Gailey creates some great moments for Yelena in a story that is filled with great action and humor. I really enjoy the tone of this series and how it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Localizing Yelena’s story gives the reader better insight into who she is as a character while also giving her more interesting and personal stakes to overcome. It would be cool to see this become an ongoing series.

The Art: Miracolo delivers impressive and wonderfully detailed art in the issue. The visuals have a lively spirit that matches the tone of the story perfectly.

The comic opens with a flashback featuring sparring between Yelena and Natasha with the latter worried for her younger sister and urging her to find something to live for. After destroying Armament’s facilities and returning to her small group of friends, and the community she helped save, Yelena rethinks her response to Natasha. It turns out, under the right circumstances, she can work as part of a team. As to what’s next, seems like Yelena is heading off with the Thundrbolts meaning more fun in Idylhaven will have to wait.

    Major Spoilers

White Widow #4 keeps the same cheeky tone that the rest of the series had and firmly establishes Yelena’s characterization going forward. It also possibly establishes a new gang of side characters that could have future appearances in the Marvel Universe. A few moments really stand out in this issue like the debate over A.I. assassins, but that’s only because the rest of it is disappointing and plays it by the book.
