The Variants continues to be one of the most astonishing things Marvel has put out as of late. This issue takes Jessica’s very personal and multiversal fight into some wild new territory, with some genuinely surprising—but thoroughly earned—emotional twists and turns. Gail Simone’s script continues to balance the series’ ever-growing ensemble with ease, and Phil Noto’s art is absolutely phenomenal. I am so thankful that The Variants exists, in the beautiful and cathartic form that it does.

The Variants #4 continues to raise the bar in a series that has done so in everysingle issue so far. Filled with perfect character voice and an exceptional deep dive into itsmain character’s complex psyche, it’s a comic where the script and superlative art work together to bring the strong emotional core at the center of this mystery to life.

    The Super Powered Fancast

The Story: Simone crafts an intense and engaging mystery in this issue and the tension within it builds beautifully. The mystery continues to be intense and entertaining and I love the dialogue between the characters as well as the attitude of Jessica prime. The story has some truly poignant moments within it, especially in the moments in Jessica’s mind. Everything comes together to a fantastic reveal that is surprising and makes me intrigued to see what happens next.

The Art: Noto delivers some beautiful art in the issue. The characters look amazing and I love the visual scope of the issue.

    Major Spoilers

Aside from some minor issues in coloring that make a certain sequence confusing, this issue stands as a great single issue experience and a really effective setup for the final issue’s conflict.Professor X has seldom seemed this cool.
