The Story: Thompson crafts a story that has some great humor, dialogue and thrills throughout. I love the buildup throughout the story and how the reader doesn’t know what is happening with Ben or what it will mean. The banter between the characters is great and there is a lot of fun I this issue while also tackling some pretty heavy drama. The Art: Pichelli and Galan deliver some great art in the issue. There are some awesome visual gags and the art perfectly captures both the light and darker tones of the story.

The Amazing Spider-Man is a tremendously fun comic book to read. It includes all of the outsized bizarre death machines that helped make each issue of Nextwave an immense pleasure, and the assembled team of two Spider-Men and the Daughters of the Dragon handle them with a comparable number of wisecracks. It's fun to watch Beyond behave at their villainous best, especially as Ben's psychology and Peter's weakened state maintain stakes despite the colorful nature of some punch-ups. The issue doesn't lack for drama either as it arrives at some twists both tragic and terrifying, often both, by its end. This is the exact sort of action and intrigue many readers read Amazing Spider-Man for and it's proving an excellent end for a memorable era.

It's the team-up we've been waiting for as Ben and Peter face off against a treasure trove of colorful villains. Amazing Spider-Man #91 continues to build towards Beyond Corp getting what they deserve and Ben hopefully getting some peace.

My one and only complaint about this issue is that, after building up Door Z for the entire issue as something crazy, it’s just a big version of the Lizard. He’s more monstrous this time around, but it’s still just the Lizard. Spider-Man and the Daughters of the Dragon can totally defeat a monster Lizard. Everything else in this issue continues the excellent storytelling we’ve seen so far. I love watching Ben and Peter work together, and I especially love how Ben is struggling and how that impacts everything around him. This issue really drives home the central conflict of this whole storyline, and I’m very much enjoying watching Ben be put through his paces and pushed into a corner by Beyond. Plus, we get a lot of fun character banter between the Daughters and the Spiders. That stuff is a hoot! The excellent character drama continues to build as we near the end of this storyline, and it’s aided by some really fun character banter.

Really wanted this to be better than it actually was. Art actually brings the book down, but still a very fun read.
