What makes this tie-in to Amazing Spider-Man’s Beyond era so entertaining is it takes a supporting character in Hobie Brown, aka the former Prowler and new Hornet, and finds a way to naturally progress his character arc. His genius intellect and inventor spirit is on full display from Geoffrey Thorne, with beautiful art by Jan Bazaldua, Jim Towe, Jim Campbell, and Joe Caramagna. Hobie comes across as hero capable of leading his own series just like Peter Parker or Tony Stark, plus his brilliant mind should have his name among the smartest in the Marvel Universe. This shouldn’t be the last readers see of Hobie and the Slingers.

    The Super Powered Fancast

The Story: Thorne delivers an entertaining story that does a good job of showing some of the reach and scope of the Beyond Corporation. I like that this tie-in issue connects to Peter’s past and to the Slingers specifically. There is an interesting story being told and it succeeds in expanding the Beyond storyline.

The Art: Bazaldua and Towe create some dynamic and visually interesting art in this issue. The art styles complement each other well and there are some great detailed moment throughout.

Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY does well to draw you into Hornet’s perspective while making the Slingers a target for the Beyond Corporation. As we near the end of this era it’s plain to see tie-in stories like this are building towards a big finish. More importantly, Thorne will make you want more Hornet comics and ties the narrative into real-world issues worthy of hero intervention.

    But Why Tho?

Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY once again turns the spotlight on a member of Spider-Man’s supporting cast, while also revisiting a storyline from his past. I only hope sales on this book are strong enough to warrant a Slingers miniseries, as I feel the creative crew could really work wonders with the concept.
