AIPTThe Amazing Spider-Man #78.BEY is a super fun, high-energy thrill ride of a comic. It's filled with ideas from horror movie icons popping up and smart tech innovations. It reads like a satisfying one-shot and yet comes with a "to be continued" at the end to make you want more. It perfectly captures the Spider-Man vibe, even though he's not present for much of the adventure. Now that's good comics.
Comic WatchA surprisingly awesome "between" issue that hits the mark on the story it's telling as well as adds to the overall big picture to this era ofAmazing Spider-Man. Both story and art are worth writing home about. Or text home about. I don't know, do whatever you want, just pick up this issue.
Fortress of Solitude
ComicBook.comSimilar to its main story running through the Spider-Man Beyond era, Amazing Spider-Man #78.BEY delivered a ton of enjoyable moments. If you're a fan of the X-Men, you'll be happy to see our new Spider-Man, Peter Parker's clone Ben Reilly, run through his own Danger Room training sequence against an army of robotic Avengers. An advantage of these one-shot issues during a major storyline is it gives supporting characters like the Daughters of the Dragon (Colleen Wing and Misty Knight) the chance to shine. Jed MacKay offers up some witty dialogue between Colleen and Misty. Their partnership and friendship really shines through as they fight together against robotic enemies and an extraterrestrial threat in another dimension. The art from Eleonora Carlini, Federico Blee, and Joe Caramagna is energetic and fun as well. By the time the issue ends, fans will be wanting to see more out of Colleen and Misty's adventures.
But Why Tho?Amazing Spider-Man #78.BEY places the focus on the Daughters of the Dragon, resulting in a comic that plays like a superhero buddy movie. With the Daughters now wary of Beyond's CEO Maxine Danger, and enlisting the help of another superhero, I look forward to seeing more of their antics in the Beyond Saga. In fact, I'm continuing to hope that more adventures await them in the future.
Multiversity ComicsBest of all, the issue concludes with Colleen and Misty secretly working against Beyond Corp. What, exactly, Beyond wants with this Obsidian Star power source is a mystery, as is Monica Rambeau’s use for it. It’s a strong cliffhanger for a strong, exciting comic. “The Amazing Spider-Man” #78.BEY is an exciting, funny, bold expansion of the biggest Spider-Man story we’ve seen in years
