The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles turn 40!

Revisit some of their greatest eras with stories told by some of the many creators of the page and screen who made each iteration of the Turtles so special!

This all-new anthology takes a look all the way back to the start, celebrating that initial spark of creativity from Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, and then works its way through the next four decades, highlighting fan-favorite touchstones from comic books and beyond. Eastman leads a host of incredible talent who are contributing new stories and pinups from a gaggle of legendary TMNT contributors, including Jim Lawson, Tristan Jones and Paul Harmon, Ronda Pattison and Pablo Tunica, Tom Waltz and Michael Dialynus, Ciro Nieli, Lloyd Goldfine with Khary Randolph and Emilio Lopez, Andy Suriano, Chris Allan and many more, all hearkening back to the era of TMNT they are best known for, ranging from the initial Mirage series through the 1990s and up until now, as well as the Tales of TMNT and Rise of the TMNT.

Featuring a host of covers designed to celebrate individual decades, including new pieces by Eastman & Laird, Campbell, Randolph, the Escorza Brothers, Michael Dooney, Vincenzo Federici, Michael Dialynas, and the mighty Simon Bisley! Plus a special “Golden Age” cover by Michael Cho!

    Nerd Initiative

As someone who always uses the term “Ninja Turtle Generation,” I use it as a reference to the fact that the Turtles have changed and evolved over the years. They have adapted their stories for new generations, both old and new, to enjoy and have done it with such skill that we, as readers, forget that WE have evolved along with them!

From the whole team at Nerd Initiative, we can’t send enough love to both Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird for creating a story that has jumped off the paneled pages to the small screen, the big screen, our toy boxes, video games, the small screen again, the paneled pages again, the small screen in CGI, then CGI on the big screen. You get the idea no matter what format, it wouldn’t have been possible for that first comic with the now iconic black and red cover that got the whole ball of turtle wax rolling!

The spirit of this celebration is best summed up by the comic “Gang Wars,” by Tristan Jones and Paul Harmon. This story muses on the conflicting legends of the TMNT, noting that “All the stories… all the different versions of them… they all start to make sense.” Having read through this volume, I agree. No matter who your team of Turtles is, you will find something to enjoy in this book.

With so many talented writers, artists, colorists, and letterers involved in the franchise, it is amazing to see how each of them put their unique spin on our beloved heroes. This release is the perfect addition to your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collection, and would surely be loved by fans new and old. We know that IDW has a lot in store for fans for this anniversary, and this was a pretty radical way to start the event.
