“Darkest Hour” continues in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #112, and it sets quite the tone for the series moving forward. Writer Melissa Flores finds new ways to explore the Morphin Grid and the various relationships within the Mighty Morphin and Omega Ranger teams. Well worn team dynamics feel fresher than ever in her hands, and the work she’s doing specifically with Matt and Grace deserves ample praise. The art team of Henry Prasetya, Matt Herms, and Ed Dukeshire goes above and beyond as well, pivoting constantly between set pieces with ease and allowing each of those separate moments to shine in its own distinct way while still feeling like a cohesive whole. And that last page once again shows how the comics can inject new life into old ideas. “Darkest Hour” has already gotten off to a fantastic start, and I cannot wait to see what’s around the next corner.

Things aren’t getting any easier for Zordon’s team of teenagers with attitude as ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ #112 throws them deeper into the ‘Darkest Hour’ event. A dire tone can be felt through the whole issue which provides the right balance against what the Rangers bring to the table. A solid expositional issue chock full of fun action sequences.

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #112 puts Mistress Vile and Dark Specter on the back burner to establish what happened in the Master Arch, explain the Morphin Grid, and give Billy the quest to save them all. Flores introduces cool new elements to Ranger lore to establish the challenge at hand while giving readers an exciting tease of things to come.

The focus is on the characters, right where it should be, but there are a bit too many characters to dig too deeply into any one or two rangers, which is a shame.
