‘Iron Cat’ ups the ante once more as the simple revenge/heist story takes a dramatic turn into a more superhero-like realm as the entire world’s fate is at stake. There is something just genuinely captivating about a gorgeous slick sexy colorful series that wears its heart on its sleeve in between all the best zingers and banter while helping solidify the upper-tier status that Black Cat deserves in this universe.

    Un Cómic Más

Intense chapter of this story where Felicia enters the technological and delicate world of Iron Man.

    You Don't Read Comics

MacKay and company toss around three heroes in powered armor fighting amidst a whole bunch of villains in similar powered armor, and it becomes apparent why dogfights are so difficult to bring to the page or screen in a way that feels dynamic. There are only so many angles that aerial combat can manage before it starts to look kind of dull and disinteresting. MacKay has four really intriguing characters to work with. Its fun stuff, but it seems to stall a bit in its fourth chapter.

Most of the comic features Iron Man and Black Cat running for their lives from the LMDs under Madame Menace’s control hoping to confuse her long enough to put some kind of plan together. As action goes, see the heroes fleeing isn’t the most heroic thing, but it does set up some of the misdirection and allow the comic to end in a cliffhanger with the fate of Tamara, and the world, in doubt.

In the most action-packed issue yet, ‘Iron Cat’ raises the stakes as Tony, Felicia, and Tamara try to push past their feelings and save the world.

Iron Cat has become a bit more cliched than I would have liked. While Iron Man has played a primary role in this series from the beginning, much of this story has centered around the conflict between Black Cat and her former partner Tamara Blake. Rather than continue to deepen or resolve that conflict in an interesting manner, Iron Cat #4 just makes Iron Man, Black Cat, and Tamara team up against a common foe. It remains to be seen if this new narrative focus goes in an interesting direction in the future, but I’m pretty let down by how Iron Cat #4 has panned out purely because of how predictable it has become.
