This book is like an overripe pomegranate: swollen decadence with a heart full of rot. Pick it up, if you dare.

Immortal Sergeant wears its heart on its sleeve, and that’s something you ought to applaud it for. Outside of that, however, this slice-of-life tale is exceptionally ordinary, for better or for worse. The plot lurches forward at an increasingly slower rate, and each character introduced seems to be even more insufferable than the last. The solicitations for this title continue to tease a heartbreaking plot but right now, all readers get is a bunch of people that don’t like each other in the slightest and the end result and much too dreary for its premise.
