Doctor Strange doesn't need to traverse the multiverse for a killer story, that much is evident by the microscopic scope featured in Doctor Strange #9. Largely set at a single location, MacKay's script is a beautifully woven tale that puts a battle of the wits at center stage, a tussle elevated by the psychedelically beautiful artwork of Ferry and Moore. This mystical match of chess is getting close to its climax, and the excitement has never been at a higher level.

All is lost, but although Doctor Strange does not have the power to defeat the insane alternate version of him, he has friends, which is when W.A.N.D. comes into action. It is an art full of brightness and colors that elevate the mystical and psychedelic tone to a level of styling and amazing aesthetic beauty, with sequences that offer an amazing dreamlike tone.

Dark powers and dark choices are the order of the day as ‘Doctor Strange’ #9 features two versions of the same, yet different, man coming to world-altering blows. A magically colorful and emotional affair is the hallmark of this series. A perfect showcase of what one can do with the magical side of Marvel when the characters are so rich and developed.

The Story: A thrilling, intense and entertaining issue from MacKay. The story takes some compelling twists and turns throughout and the rise in suspense makes every moment engaging to the reader. I was immersed in every moment between the Strange’s as well as Clea’s attempts to save her baby sister. Everything in the issue, including the ending, makes me want to see what happens next. The Art: I continue to love the otherworldly visual style of Ferry. The art brilliantly utilizes the magic of the characters to create visually stunning moments throughout the issue.
