Every time you think Cosmic Ghost Rider has gotten as ridiculous and delightfully absurd as it could possibly get, Donny Cates & co. surprise once again. The third issue of this mini packs an ever bigger punch than the first two, with a visit from a new, futuristic Guardians of the Galaxy, a slaying of the entire Marvel universe, and a final page that there is literally no way to prepare for. Cosmic Ghost Rider is wacky in all the right ways, and every panel is nothing short of thoroughly enjoyable.

    Horror DNA

Cosmic Ghost Rider already established itself as one of my favorite comics of the year. This issue raises the bar even higher. It is such a fun, wacky ride that plays like a hilarious comedy. Frank set out to do something good that might make up for all the horrible things he’s done in his life, but he might have made it a whole lot worse instead.

    Sequential Planet

I have used a specific word twice while describing the writing and the art: FUN. It is really what this comic boils down to. It is loads of FUN. Each issue seems to trump the last, and that always makes for a good read and what every creative team strives for. You have to pick up this series; it’s just too much FUN. Don’t let me have it all. Join Cosmic Ghost Rider before the series ends at Issue #5.

    The Super Powered Fancast

Cates is going all out with this story and that’s what makes it work so well. We’ve had our big emotional Thanos story and this is all the crazy of that turned way up and the rule book thrown out the window. Everything about it feels fresh and new and the fact that Cates is willing to do new and weird things with the narrative makes the unpredictability of this story its greatest asset. I love not knowing where this is going because I am thoroughly enjoying the ride.

Burnett adds another dimension to the story with some truly great art that adds to the frenetic pace of the narrative and complements the insanity with great facial expressions and really funny visual gags that help set and alter the mood of scenes in progress. Great panels and composition.

    Weird Science Marvel Comics

Light on the story this issue, but huge on imagination and bombastic spectacle, the Cosmic Ghost Rider continues to please and entertain anybody that picks up this book. Aside from the book moving at the pace of Frank Castle on a cosmic speed bike, there is very little that goes on I don’t thoroughly enjoy. Check this book out if you’ve been on the fence.

    Monkeys Fighting Robots

Call your comic shop now! Tell them you want Cosmic Ghost Rider #1-3 AND that you want the rest of the series added to your pull list. Cates is not holding anything back, and you genuinely don’t want to miss the next issue with Thanos as the Punisher. The art may not be my cup of tea, but it certainly does the job nicely and adds that particular burst to each page taking this series to another level. Cates is on fire right now, and everyone just needs to get out of his way and let the man “do what he does!” As a fan, just kick back and watch the craziness unfold. Trust me; you’ll love every minute of it!

Considering how insane this comic can get (Galactus gets shot out of a shotgun at one point…don’t ask), it’s hard to take any of it too seriously. I keep saying it’s fun and it sure is, but you may need to turn your brain off a tick. There are fun iterations to be had, but we all know the characters being killed matters very little. We even know Thanos’ part in the story isn’t very meaningful since it’ll all need to be erased eventually. That’s comics in a nutshell though, so how much you hold that against this book depends on how serious you like your comic books.

A fun, raucous and wild ride that is not to be missed if you want to turn your brain off.

    Multiversity Comics

This series is nothing short of bonkers and it has been an absolute delight reading it. It is one of the most successful absurdist comics to come from Marvel in a long time. The wait for the rest of the series will be an impatient one and here’s hoping that Marvel uses this version of the character a few more times before he’s written out of existence.

“Cosmic Ghost Rider” #3 is a fantastic turning point for the mini-series and a wonderfully exciting and hilarious story to boot.
