Children of the Vault provides one of the few notable victories in the "Fall of X" line as the buddy cop duo of Cable and Bishop deliver big sci-fi solutions to this tech-heavy brand of false saviors. The staging for this particular underdog victory pays off various points of interest from across the miniseries and offers a new framing for the "big gun" trope tied to both of the protagonists. It's an excellent sci-fi twist that leads to a denouement that clarifies the Children's role as antagonists in this moment within the messy mutant metaphor. Fixing this entire globe-spanning and -altering adventure within such a tight timeframe leaves it somewhat disconnected from surrounding events as entire cities melting away amidst human devastation is ignored, but they may also be a neat element of commentary within this excellent miniseries' framework.
