Captain Marvel’s team-up with the X-Men has been stellar, but issue #46 is easily the best issue of the team-up thus far. “Revenge of the Brood” part four is Kelly Thompson at her finest, delivering poignant character moments with the entire team that all draw from Carol’s past, present, and future. (…) “Revenge of The Brood” is shaping up to be a standout of this already great run, and it’s all building to a truly epic conclusion.

Kelly Thompson’s been working on Carol and her world for almost four years, and she just keeps on going, giving us one of the most consistently great comics coming from the Big Two, and is easily one of the best female lead titles on stands. She’s been world building Carol that reminds me of what we saw with Geoff Johns’s run on Green Lantern, with the difference she’s giving us a much more intimate look into who Carol is, why she does what she does, and why she’s Marvel’s premiere female superhero. Almost 50 issues in, and I still can’t wait to see what she does next.

Captain Marvel #46 and the larger “Revenge of the Brood” is the book I wanted for years as an X-Men fan and as a Captain Marvel fan. Thompson’s writing perfectly balances some pure fun, comic book goodness with deeper plots that promise payoff. Each character feels like they get their moment and with Rogue coming into the fold next issue, it’s surely only going to get better.

    The Super Powered Fancast

The Story: A great action packed adventure that delivers on tension, terror and character. There is a great build up throughout the issue from both teams and I love seeing Carol dealing with her internal fears in regards to what is happening to Binary. I liked seeing Psylocke connect with Carol as well and Gambit’s team has some great stakes when they reach their target. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next.

The Art: Pina delivers some beautifully detailed art throughout the story. The characters look amazing and the action is visually thrilling on every page.

    Comic Book Revolution

While the inner monologue did not work to tap into the full potential of things Kelly Thompson previously established the dynamic between all the characters was done well. Hazmat, Polaris, and Psylocke stole the show in this issue. Good artwork from Javier Pina made Captain Marvel #46 another solid chapter in The Revenge Of The Brood story.
